Dear Child Scholars Donor,
There is something special about May.
Perhaps it is because May is the month when we celebrate children around the world; their dreams, their potential, and the futures waiting to be developed. Perhaps this reminds us why Child Scholars exists in the first place: to ensure that a child’s circumstances never become a limitation to their possibilities.
For us, May was also special for another reason. It was the birthday month of our Founder, Dr Emmanuel Okenye; a fitting occasion to celebrate not just another year of life, but another year of impact.
And what a month it was.
Creating New Pathways Through Skills Development
At Child Scholars, we believe education takes many forms. Sometimes it happens in classrooms, through mentorships, and sometimes when a young person discovers a skill that can change the direction of their future.
This month, we partnered with Voice Over Academy to host the maiden edition of the Video Editing & Motion Graphics Bootcamp, a three-day intensive training designed to equip aspiring creators with practical, industry-relevant skills.
Countless hours went into making the bootcamp a reality behind the scenes. From curriculum development and tutor selection to building a dedicated registration platform and coordinating logistics, every detail was carefully planned to create an impactful learning experience.
But what truly made this initiative remarkable was accessibility.
Through your donations, Child Scholars provided 90% scholarships to 11 trainees. In celebration of his birthday, Dr Emmanuel Okenye sponsored five additional trainees with 100% scholarships.
Sixteen young people who may not otherwise have had access to this level of professional training were allowed to learn, create, and grow.
For three days, the trainees were immersed in a hands-on learning environment led by experienced video editors and motion graphics designers. After lectures, they worked directly with industry professionals who guided them through practical projects and real-world applications.
They explored topics such as:
- The language and purpose of editing
- Understanding the editor’s perspective
- Emotion-driven storytelling
- Timing and rhythm in visual content
- Shot composition and continuity
- The psychology behind effective editing
Most importantly, they gained practical experience using industry-standard tools, including Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects.
The learning did not end when the bootcamp ended. Participants continue to benefit from mentorship sessions with their tutors, who provide reviews, feedback, and guidance as they build their portfolios and strengthen their skills.
Watching these young creatives gain confidence, discover new possibilities, and begin developing marketable skills reminded us that education is not only about earning certificates. It is about opening doors.
And thanks to you, sixteen more doors were opened this month.
A Joyful Month for Our Children
As the world celebrated children throughout May, our students at Veritas Academy had their own reasons to smile.
They enjoyed a memorable excursion filled with laughter, adventure, learning, and unforgettable moments with friends and teachers.
The stories, photographs, and highlights deserve an edition of their own, and we cannot wait to share them with you in our June newsletter.
For now, know that the smiles were wide, the excitement was contagious, and the memories will last a very long time.
A Beautiful Note Of Gratitude
When we least expect it, a message always arrives that leaves us gobsmacked.
This month, the Director of the Philippines Project, Kailana Burden, shared a note from one of the students whose educational journey has been made possible through Child Scholars donors.
Enriquita, who is pursuing her dream of becoming an accountant in the Philippines, recently completed another important milestone in her academic journey.
Her message speaks for itself:
“Good day, ma’am! I want you to know that I passed and I’m already eligible to enroll for 3rd year 🥹 Thank you so much po to you and to the Child Scholars Organization for supporting me all this time. I honestly wouldn’t have made it this far without your help and support.
Honestly, po, there were times when I doubted myself and felt like giving up, but knowing that there are people like you and the Child Scholar Organization supporting me financially and believing in me kept me going. It always reminds me that I’m not alone in this journey. Thank you so much again, ma’am! ❤.”
As we read her words, we were reminded that impact is rarely measured only in numbers. It is measured in:
- A student who keeps going when she feels like giving up.
- The confidence that comes from knowing someone believes in you.
- A young woman is advancing toward her dream of becoming an accountant because generous people she may never meet chose to invest in her future.
That investor is you.
Every scholarship awarded, every training opportunity created, every educational milestone achieved, and every life transformed is possible because you continue to say YES to this mission.
As we reflect on this joyful month of celebration, opportunity, and gratitude, we want you to know how deeply thankful we are for your continued partnership.
Your love gesture is helping children learn, helping young adults develop employable skills, and helping students around the world pursue futures that once seemed unattainable.
As our community continues to grow, we invite you to help us spread the word.
Kindly share Child Scholars with your friends, family members, colleagues, faith communities, foundations, and corporate networks. Every introduction has the potential to create new opportunities for children and students who need them most.
Thank you for believing in our children and their future.
And thank you for helping us write more stories like Enriquita’s.
Warm regards,
Morenike Adams
