Dear Child Scholars Donor,
Allow us to do something a little different this month.
Rather than plans, projections, or grand scheme goals, this is a simple, sincere update on what your donations have already made possible; just in the first quarter of the year.
A Student Almost Didn’t Graduate
A few weeks ago, we received a report about a college student in the Philippines who was falling behind. This was not due to his inability to excel in his studies, his sponsor could no longer continue funding his education.
Without intervention, he would have had to become a full-time working student, stretching his graduation timeline by another three years.
Today, he is back on track to graduate in two years because of donor support. His story has changed, his relief is real, and his future is back within reach.
We are currently supporting 7 students with:
- Monthly living and travel allowances
- Access to learning resources, including laptop rentals
One immediate need we are trusting to meet next is a personal laptop for this student, so he can fully participate in his academic work.
And beyond individual students, we are also preparing to fix a leaking, mold-affected roof in a local elementary school; as learning should never happen under unsafe conditions.
Plans are in progress for an onsite visit to the Philippines, including witnessing our first sponsored student graduate as a pastor.
What It Looks Like to Strengthen a Hospital
At Nidus Aquilae Hospital, this quarter has been about putting structure where it matters.
With new leadership in place, the focus has been on creating structure, improving care, and making better use of existing resources.
They focused on:
- Stronger coordination and leadership: Regular management and staff meetings are now in place, aligning everyone around a clearer vision for the hospital
- Closer clinical oversight: Case reviews, ward rounds, and supervision across units have been strengthened to improve patient outcomes
- Better use of equipment: Doctors have been trained to properly use and interpret diagnostic tools like ECG and cardiotocography machines
- Expanded diagnostic capacity: The hospital has begun utilizing newly acquired laboratory equipment, including a semi-automated chemistry analyzer and hormonal assay systems
- Introduction of comprehensive wellness check programs (Core, Elevate, and Prime): Structured health screening packages have been developed to help people proactively understand their health status
There have also been practical improvements to the hospital environment:
- Installation of inverter air conditioners and additional fans to improve ventilation
- Repairs of critical equipment such as the generator and laboratory machines
- Ongoing laboratory expansion and renovation to support growing services
At the same time, the challenges remain:
- Limited revenue generation
- Infrastructure, especially power supply and ventilation constraints
- The ongoing work to improve staff capacity and professionalism
Yet within these constraints, progress is steady.
The goal is simple: a hospital that is not just open; but efficient, trusted, and fully functional for the community it serves.
An Urgent Situation at Veritas Academy
This month also came with something we didn’t plan for.
A burglary incident within the school premises forced us to act quickly.
Within a short time, we:
- Engaged a security agency to provide on-site personnel
- Fixed lighting across the compound to improve visibility and safety
- Continued ongoing renovation work to keep the school functional
It was not in the budget, but it was necessary since safety is not something we can postpone.
What We Are Preparing Next
We will begin sharing updates from our Vocational Training Programme in partnership with Voice Over Academy.
Not every young person needs a traditional academic route. However, everyone deserves a pathway to earn, grow, and build a future.
That is what this program is designed to do.
Just Before We Conclude…
We would like you to ruminate on the impact your donation makes feasible.
- A student staying in school
- A hospital gradually finding its structure
- A school becoming safer overnight
These are the kinds of possibilities your giving is nurturing; quietly, consistently, and significantly.
If you have been considering increasing your support, sponsoring a specific need, or introducing Child Scholars to someone in your network, this is a set time to do so.
Thank you for your endless support.
Warm regards,
Morenike Adams
