Classrooms are generally built for learning, but when they begin to tell stories, they take interesting twists and turns. In this context, our classrooms reverberated with the laughter of children seated at brand-new desks, while others were filled with the resolve of students preparing for final exams.
Sometimes impact is measured in numbers. Other times, it is in the faces, stories, and sighs of relief from people who thought help was out of reach. This month, at Nidus Aquilae Hospital, we were reminded of both.
Ever so often, something, or someone comes along and gently nudges the course of our ship, reminding us to pause, reflect, and take stock of just how far we have come.
Well, this July, it wasn’t just our brilliant beneficiaries doing the redirecting. Our founder, affectionately known as the “Village Doctor” took a moment from his mission-filled life to say “Holl up!” (yes, in proper Naija street lingua) and reflected on the journey that brought us here.
This month’s newsletter was already outlined. We were going to take you through recent student milestones; their improved test scores, completed workshops, new scholarships. It was going to be packed with numbers and updates, until something beautiful happened.
If we took a breather long enough to see the world through a child’s eyes, we would discover something beautiful; wonder, vulnerability, possibility. On May 27, Nigeria celebrated Children’s Day, but for Child Scholars, children are not just a date on a calendar or a box to tick. They are our pulse. Our reason. The very heart of our mission.
This month, something phenomenal happened! There was a very special visit! Our founder, Dr. Emmanuel Okenye, traveled to Nigeria and spent quality time touring two of our thriving initiatives; Veritas Academy (Ikorodu) and Nidus Aquilae Hospital (Ilupeju).
It was a much-anticipated and truly impactful visit!
We promised in the February edition that we would be sharing exciting updates from our initiatives across different regions, showcasing how our ever-efficient directors are raising the next generation of amazing talents. We are excited to present to you activity updates from our indefatigable directors at Ngala School for the Deaf in Nakuru, Kenya.
As we journey through 2025, we are reminded that impact is not just measured in numbers but in lives changed. This month, we bring you heartwarming stories from Veritas School; real testimonies of transformation made possible through your constant donations. The children in our programs are thriving, and their stories are a testament to the difference you make.
2025 is here, and we could not be more excited to begin this new year with you! From all of us at Child Scholars, we wish you a happy and fruitful year ahead. May you experience joy, love and peace beyond measure in Jesus name!
