Dear Child Scholars Donor,
It was such a joy to have our founder, Dr. Emmanuel Okenye, back home in Lagos this past September. And in true Dr. Okenye fashion, his visit was far from leisurely; it was mission-driven and deeply impactful from start to finish. It began with a successful free medical outreach in celebration of Pastor Toluwani Odukoya’s 40th birthday, to multiple rounds to Nidus Aquilae Hospital, and then an unannounced quality assurance visit to Veritas Academy. His energy and heart in action once again beautifully reflected everything we stand for at Child Scholars.
The medical outreach, held on Sunday, September 21, drew hundreds of beneficiaries who received free consultations and treatments. Reflecting on the event, Dr. Okenye shared on Instagram:
“It was great to be home in Nigeria for my big sissy’s @toluijogun 40th birthday and to help host a successful medical outreach that saw several hundreds in attendance. I cried uncontrollably during my flight back, reflecting on my interaction with patients; some of whom were literally on the brink of giving up. Special thanks to the Nidus Aquilae team and everyone who made this outreach a tremendous success.”

Among those touched by the outreach were Ms. Queen Eze and her daughter, Mercy, who were both critically ill and admitted to Nidus Aquilae Hospital. Mercy, running a dangerously high fever, received urgent care that saved her life, while her mother was provided with essential medication and monitored closely. Stories like theirs remind us why we do what we do, and why we must keep going.

These two are one of the many fruits from this outreach and we hope to do more early next year.
A few days later, on Tuesday, September 23, Dr. Okenye and the Child Scholars Nigeria team made an unannounced visit to Veritas Academy in Ikorodu. Accompanied by Educational Consultant, Ms. Bolatito Olayiwola, the visit was part of our ongoing quality assurance efforts. Her detailed School Evaluation Report provided practical tips into school leadership, teaching practices, classroom environments, and infrastructure; along with practical recommendations we have already begun implementing to strengthen the Academy’s operations.

Also in line with our plans to expand and make more impact in Nigeria, we are happy to announce progress on a major milestone; Child Scholars is officially in the process of registering as a nonprofit with Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). Our approved name, Child Scholars Education and Health Initiative, marks a huge step toward expanding our work and operating as a legal entity in Nigeria.
Dr. Okenye’s visit was a powerful reminder that purpose and progress never take a break. Each meeting, outreach, and school visit brought us closer to the vision of every child thriving through quality education and accessible healthcare. Surely. better days truly lie ahead and as always; we are totally grateful that you, our donors and partners, continue to make this journey possible. We trust that the God who began this great work in us will bring it to full fruition: one child, one life, one story at a time in Jesus name!
Warm regards,
